Dear Students,
Welcome to the L.A.B. Project. If you wish to join the project,
you must receive permission from Professor Feldman or Professor
Lefstin. Similarly, if you wish to choose one of the research
topics or post a paper, you must receive permission from Professor
Feldman or Professor Lefstin.
Please be aware that you will be representing Hastings and your
fellow students as you interact with law firms and bioscience
companies. This is not a forum for casual offhand comments and
questions. Rather, everything you post, whether it is a question
or a research paper, must be carefully thought out and researched
in advance.
You have an extraordinary opportunity to serve the bioscience
community. Please remember that the bioscience community is not
there to do your work or research for you.
The L.A.B. Project is designed to both serve the bioscience community
and help train our students. The program is organized through
a website, with access available by invitation only. The site
provides for the following types of exchanges:
1) Participants from the bioscience community can go to the web site and post potential discussion topics. Topics could include, for example, frequently asked questions that those in the trenches never have time to answer, areas in which the law creates problems for biotech endeavors, or areas of cutting-edge science that are likely to encounter problems under current legal doctrines.
2) Other members of the bioscience community can respond, providing similar examples in their own experience, suggesting approaches to the problem, disagreeing with the perspective, etc.
3) Hastings students and faculty can join the discussion and may post papers researching and responding to the legal issues raised.
4) All participants will receive periodic emails with notices of current topics and papers posted on the web site.
If you would like to participate in the L.A.B. Project, please
e-mail Professor Feldman
or Professor Lefstin
with information on your background and an explanation of your
interest in the project.
